The Blackjack Trainer deals real hands and grades every decision you make against basic strategy, the play that loses the least over millions of hands. Play your own way and see instantly whether you matched the math, or tap Show me the right play before you act. It is free, with no download and no real money.
How the trainer works
- Bet and deal. Pick chips and press Deal (or the Space bar).
- Decide. Hit, Stand, Double, Split or Surrender, by tapping or with the H, S, D, P and R keys.
- Get feedback. A green note means you made the correct play. A red note shows the correct play and a one-line reason.
- Ask the coach. Not sure? Tap “Show me the right play” (or press ?) and the correct button lights up. Hands where you asked for a hint don’t count toward your accuracy.
- Track your progress. Your accuracy, current streak and best streak are saved on your device.
Where the recommendations come from
The coach uses basic strategy, the system players and casino analysts around the world rely on. It was first worked out by four mathematicians in the 1950s and has since been confirmed by computer simulations of billions of hands. For every combination of your hand and the dealer’s up card, it gives the move with the best long-run result.
Basic strategy changes slightly with the table rules. The trainer uses the rules shown under the game: 6 decks, dealer stands on soft 17, double after split and late surrender. Played perfectly under these rules, blackjack gives the house an edge of well under 1%, one of the lowest in any casino game.
A sample hand
You hold a 10 and a 6 for hard 16, and the dealer shows a 10. Most beginners stand because they’re afraid to bust. The trainer says Surrender: hard 16 against a 10 loses so often that giving up half your bet costs less in the long run. If surrender weren’t allowed, the right play would be to hit.
Now change the dealer’s card to a 6. The trainer says Stand: a dealer showing 6 busts about 42% of the time, so you let the dealer take the risk.
Trainer FAQ
I followed the coach and still lost. Is it wrong?
No. Basic strategy picks the best play on average, not a guaranteed win. Even the correct play loses many individual hands; it simply loses less often over time.
What accuracy should I aim for?
Aim for 95% or better over 100 decisions. Most mistakes come from a small group of hands: soft totals, pairs and 12 to 16 against a weak dealer card.
Can I play without the coach?
Yes. Tap “Coach on” to switch it off, or play free blackjack with the coach off by default.
Do coins have any value?
No. Coins are free, can’t be bought or cashed out, and refill for free if you run out. Read how coins work.
